Long Beach State face stern test in Colorado State

Long Beach State are hoping to pull off an upset on Saturday afternoon in Fort Collins, CO. This has been an auspicious month for the Beach, as they’ve had an upset, but also some blowouts. Early on in December, LBSU knocked off Stanford. However, they were blown out by Fresno State and Michigan State. Dan Monson will be eager to get back into the win column against a good Rams squad.

When: Saturday, December 23, 2017, 2:00 PM MT

Where: Moby Arena, Fort Collins, Colorado

TV: Mountain West Network

Saturday’s visiting team always seem to have one of the toughest non-conference schedules in all of college basketball. This year is no different. Long Beach have played two PAC-12 teams (including Oregon State twice), the number two ranked team in the country, West Virginia, and so on. You can’t say they are not battle tested.

Those losses add up, and in order to get to the NCAA Tournament in March, they will have to win the Big West. And there are some good teams this year. Watch out for Bryan Alberts, a transfer from Gonzaga. Alberts didn’t get much playing time in two seasons up in Spokane, Washington, but he’s making the most of his time in Long Beach. The junior is playing about 30 minutes a game and is averaging about 14 points too, good for second on the team.

Colorado State, meanwhile, are not expected to do much in their conference this season, as they sit 6–6. They don’t really shoot the ball well as a unit, getting a hair over 70 points per game. Larry Eustachy’s squad, though, has been playing well of late, winning their last two games. Their guard will have to be up in order to keep that winning streak alive.

Prentiss Nixon, a junior guard from Illinois will be the one to keep an eye on from the Rams. He leads the team in minutes, points per game, and steals per game. Nixon also sits second in both free percentage and three point percentage. The Rams go as far as Nixon takes them.

Colorado State are most likely going to come out on top, but never count out the Beach.
