Art comes in many forms; I have always known this. Lyrics can be sung to the melody of a guitar, pigments can be mixed and guided across a canvas, and sentences can be structured in the makings of a tale. However, photography opened a gateway in not only my passion for art but my understanding of depth.

Photography captures frames of our evermoving existence which, if attempted correctly, paints an easy image for the eye. However, it is not quite as simple as one may think. In fact, something as simple as finding a way to hold the camera still or where to set up proves to be one of my most daunting challenges in every session. Through the years of Film, Photography, and Journalism, I have had to hang from a rail, lay on hot asphalt, and even climb to unstable heights to manage an accurate shot. Light, shadow, movement, angle — all have to be perfect. All of the aspects of the world come to a perfected silence as the camera snaps. This has made me realize how much I love the puzzle of it all. Piece by piece you set up to capture a perfect moment through the camera; this adventure of creation is what inevitably aroused my passion for film. Film is the aesthetic of moving pictures — clips that demonstrate a drama through motions and emotions which words cannot begin to describe.

The camera will habitually remain an object of depth. Pain and beauty coincide in a single shot as a photographer depicts the backstreets of a town. Photography captures the world for what it is — beautiful ruin; this allows organizations to bring to vivid color the annihilation that humans do to one another. People cannot deny the piece of reality that cameras steal. I plan to use photography and film for exactly this purpose. There is hate, hunger, and hurt that humanity utterly refuses to see, so I will force them to see. Illustrating the extent of the state of society may not be enough to bring immediate change, but it will initiate the turn of this massive ship.

I deserve this scholarship because it will assist me in my education of the camera and carry me forth into filming studies. This scholarship will aid me in obtaining the career of my dreams. Years from now, I can envision myself on the set of a production. I would film and capture messages from the minority — messages that, perhaps, could reach the majority. The PhotographyTalk scholarship is fundamentally important to my education and goals.
