2018 Year of Compiled Scripting Languages

For family reasons I was sorry to cancel my appearance and talk at Open West this year. Open West is a great conference, 100% open source! I really missed not being there — it is a smart attend for…

Pitch

Amidst a historical pandemic, social media has been the main form of communication for not only the general public but for celebrities as well. Kanye West is undoubtedly one of the most influential artists from our generation and because of this status the public often portrays him and many other celebrities of his caliber as these perfect or invincible beings. They treat celebrities as if they cannot face mental health issues just because they are wealthy. Kanye is openly bipolar and often has social media outbursts but yet due to his status many people consciously ignore these moments. The public tends to normalize these social media outbursts, thinking its just Kanye being Kanye. My story will be titled “The Kanye Effect” and it will explore the idea of mental health and its leading causes to drug abuse amongst those in the entertainment industry. I would like to touch on how the public often ignores tell tale signs of celebrity mental health issues just because they are famous. In a time where mental health is getting more awareness than ever, I believe that the public shouldn’t forget about those that we look up too and how they are humans just like us. My planned platforms for this story will be through Twitter and Instagram. I chose these two specific platforms because Twitter is the easiest social media platform for musicians or celebrities to connect with their fans and Instagram’s story function will give me an opportunity to take polls amongst the masses. I will be teasing the story on Twitter and each post will be about a different artist who was known to have mental health issues but was ultimately ignored. I would like to explore the stories of famous drug overdoses in artists such as Lil Peep, Juice WRLD, and Mac Miller and how if those who were more attentive of their mental health, could have taken action in order to help prevent their death. Alongside this, in the main story that I would like to post on Medium, I will also discuss the impacts of the entertainment industry on celebrities and how toxic the environment can be.
