Resilience

When I think of resilience I see a tender plant that sways with the wind, hit by the rain, dumped on with garbage, and yet blooms with a yellow flower suddenly out of nowhere. I see that rock that has existed over centuries at the same place by the river Ganges, I go to sit on, eroded with water and wind, and the use of it as the platform for thrashing clothes by the cleaners in Varanasi. This earth, carries resilience in her every vein. All things living, plants, animals, insects, and humans, are born with abilities to survive the thick and thin of life.

We humans have gotten to a place where resilience as a primordial skill set has been dumbed down. The more a civilization, a country, a community, gains control over their wellbeing, there are more choices, options, and end runs to rely on. With more distance between basic survival and willful living resilience becomes archaic, an old instrument, rarely tended, never played, hanging somewhere in the garage, behind the new camping gears, dusty and forgotten.

Resilience is a weapon for survival in adversity. A medicine for riding the waves of every day life. And a way of being that makes our essence sing, no matter what.

The spirit is resilient to decay, destruction, or death, and hence eternal. The truth is omnipresent, ever resilient to that which is not. The light is omnipotent to temporary shadows gliding by.

May my soul, and yours, be able to hold on to the innate resilience we are born with. If lost, may we dig it out, clean it, fix, it, and play it by tuning into the invincible sourced by the unconscious.
